Albania Classic Tour is the choice to visit a country located in the Western Balkans. It shares the borders with Montenegro and Kosovo in the North, Greece in the South and furthermore North Macedonia in the East and Italy on the West. Due to the regime, the country closed to hippies and west looking alike people for decades. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Albania changes its course. Obviously I am happy to suggest the best places and dishes according to the personal taste of each traveler. As a rule, we don’t book for meals and accommodation. On the other hand, with a request, i can arrange meals and accommodation.
Day 1: Tirana
Meet with the guide at the airport. Following transfer to the hotel and some time for refreshment. Meet again and a short presentation of the tour. Evening visit of the capital which Includes the Pyramid of Tirana, the central square and its mos representative buildings and entrance in the History Museum. Late evening in the lively area of Blloku.
Day 2: Kruje and Shkoder
Meet the guide in the lobby following a short presentation of the day and transfer to Kruje. We start the visit with the Old Bazaar and continue to the Castle. After that we visit an Ottoman house of the 18th Century. Transfer to Shkoder and on the way a stop in a Slow Food restaurant for an authentic culinary experience. Evening visit of Shkoder. Stroll around the romantic alleys of Shkoder. Evening return to Tirane. Free time for dinner.
Day 3: Berat (UNESCO)
Transfer to Berat. Additionally, the visit to the city includes the Lower and the Upper Neighborhoods. Furthermore, the lower part is a UNESCO historical site due to its remarkable architecture. Besides, in the upper part, we will find a great collection of Byzantine Art. Undoubly the views from the towers of the Berat are amazing. Particularly today we have the possibility to enjoy some delicious traditional dishes. As well we visit a local winery. In conclusion evening free to enjoy on ourselves.
Day 4: Gjirokaster (UNESCO)
Gjirokaster is another remarkable example of Ottoman Architecture. It should be noted that this little town is the birthplace of many Albanian influential personalities. In addition, I can mention the Nobel Candidate Writer Ismail Kadare and the dictator of Albania for 45 years, Enver Hoxha. Following with the visit of the old part and the castle. In the evening visit of a fortified houses in the town.
Day 5: Blue Eye Spring and Butrint (UNESCO)
Albania abounds on natural and historical sites. Moreover, we visit a natural wonder localy such as the Blue Eye. It is about a natural park and its many springs. The most beatiful one is surrounded by mystery and legends on its powers and crystalline waters. Besides, the second part of the day will be in the lost city of Butros aka Butrinti. Definitely the most important UNESCO site in Albania. Above all, its location inside a forest and in between a lake, a river and the Ionian Sea offers astonishing views. Moreover, Hellenistic, Roman and Venetian remains decorate the whole park. Absolutely an amazing site to explore. In conclusion free evening in the coastal town of Sarande.
Day 6: Riviera, Llogara National Park and Vlora
A super scenic drive through mountains, hills filled with secular olive trees and spectacular views of the Ionian Sea. We will make many stops on the way. Visit to Porto Palermo, a triangular fortress located on the top of a small peninsula surrounded by an incredible bay. We will stop and explore the villages of Himare and Vuno. Hence going up to 1200 m above the sea level. Also we visit Vlore, the city where the Albanians proclaimed independence from the Ottoman Empire. Today the city is bustling as a lively touristic destination both for nationals and internationals.
Day 7: Apollonia and Durres
Visit in the Monastery of Zvernec. Later we will head to Apollonia, an ancient city that ceased life somewhere in the early medieval age. At its peak, the city was an example of perfectly functional Democracy. The next stop will be Durres, the Rome of the Balkans. We will visit the Old Byzantine Walls and the Roman Amphitheater of the 2nd Century. Evening transfer to Tirana.
Day 8: End of our Tour
Explore some more from the surroundings of the capital along with a visit to Dajti National Park. In order to get to the top, we will take the panoramic cable car. Following a small hiking to enjoy the views and the nature. Alternatively, free time for shopping activities and lunch. Transfer to the airport or hotel.
